The movie's dominant visual tone is bronzed grunge, and its emotional tone is depressive.. Most of the budget seems to have been spent on the cast, with apparently little left over for sets or costumes.. Inkheart is a valentine to books mainly by negative example -- the leaps of imagination it doesn't achieve..
